Artankors Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by No. 4 Team of the Xinjiang Regional Geological Survey in 1959, and published by Chen Xu et al in 1990. The nominative section is about 15 km north of Keyi Town, north of Baicheng County in the middle-lower reaches of Artankos River.

Lithology and Thickness
It is subdivided into two members in lithology. Lower member consists of grey green siltstone intercalated with limestone and chert, with the brown yellow conglomerate and sandstone interbeds at the base. The chert beds are more common and intercalated with basalt beds at the lower part. Upper member is composed of grey and dark grey thin-to-thick-bedded crystalline limestone, with interbeds of grey brown and grey purple tuffaceous sandy conglomerate in the middle and upper parts. The thickness is 1300 m at the type section.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is conformable with the underlying Keketiekedaban Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the next younger unit is the Aerpishimaibulak Fm of early Devonian.
Regional extent
It is distributed in the area of Artankos, Baoaoziklik, Qionggeguole and Meisblak River. The thickness is 1300 m at the type section, 1335 m in Kalgol area, where the neritic carbonate rocks, volcanic rocks and clastic rocks are deposited in the lower member of the Formation.

Fossils
The lower member bears brachiopod Atrypoidea cf. polaris, bryozoan Trematopora and Cuneatopoidea, and corals, etc.; the upper member yields Dictyofavosites sp., Squameofavosites sp. coral fossils.
